Elgin Sports, an Ottawa landmark for sports enthusiasts, is closing its doors. Located on Albert, between Bank and Kent Streets in downtown Ottawa, Elgin Sports has been in business for 70 years. Unfortunately,… like many other businesses in Ontario, they are feeling the pinch as consumers have been forced to tighten their budgets due to the rising costs of heating, hydro, taxes and other essential items.

We’ve had a lot of stores close in our little town. K-mart and Hancock Fabrics were the two that surprised me most. Yet we have new businesses moving in. They’re putting up new buildings instead of using the one’s there.
