Biased TV networks

How do TV networks get away with being so biased?   Although I am not talking about the recent American election coverage, that was pretty bad too.  This time I am referring to the sports channels….

Last evening (Saturday, Jan 21) I had plans so had to PVR the Ottawa Senators vs Toronto Maple Leaf hockey game.  As soon as I arrived home we started watching the game, but much to our chagrin I had forgotten to allow time for a shootout.  When the overtime session ended with the score still tied, we did not know who won.  We waited patiently to see the game recap on Sportscenter. (TSN and ESPN)  As time went on and we heard nothing about that game, yet every detail about the other games played, we figured the Ottawa Senators had won.  Obviously, if the Toronto Maple Leafs had won we would have heard instantly, not to mention over and over again.

When the overtime session ended with the score still tied, we did not know who won.  We waited patiently to see the game recap on Sportscenter. Or at least the final score amongst all the other scored displayed scrolling across the bottom of the screen.  NOTHING!  As time went on and we heard nothing about that game, yet every detail about the other games played, we figured the Ottawa Senators had won.  Obviously, if the Toronto Maple Leafs had won we would have heard instantly, not to mention over and over again, on TV and social media.

This morning I tuned into Sportcenter on the TV again, thinking they would have to show the details, including the final score.  Still nothing.  I finally got proof positive that the Senators won when I googled the result on my computer.  By noon, they finally conceded the Maple Leaf loss.

The Ottawa Senators and Toronto Maple Leafs are bitter rivals here in Ontario.  Part of the reason I dislike the Maple Leafs is the fact that their fans are so obnoxious.  In fact, when these two teams play here in Ottawa, many Senators fans do like going to the games because of the Toronto fans.  The only time Leaf fans brag about their team is when they are winning or after they win.  When they lose all you hear is the silence.

That’s my rant for the day.  Did I mention the Ottawa Senators beat the Toronto Maple Leafs?  Just clarifying, you probably wouldn’t have heard it anywhere else!

Final Score…

  1. I love your passion for supporting your team! What a great game you have in ice hockey. We do not get coverage of it in UK much if any and I have never supported a team, but I always like watching it when it is available! It seems fast and furious and exciting and not a game for prima donnas, as some of the footballers (soccer?) seem to be. Sports coverage is biased too in UK, and it is usually in favour of big clubs and teams. Last week my favourite football team got an airing on national TV, only to lose a cup game to rank underdogs, to humiliate themselves and us fans on a national basis! It can be tough being a supporter sometimes! We stay loyal to our local club though through good and bad times! Keep supporting 🙂

  2. It should be wrong that TV channels and news media show their biases, but they probably wouldn’t stop. You’re right about the election here in the US. The media always roots for the democrats and have for years. I rarely listen to the news because it’s a waste of time – I know how they’ll put down one and revere the other. Ignoring all Hillary’s crimes, the media painted her a saint and anyone opposed to her as the criminal. They’ve been crucifying Trump and his family constantly. The day he was inaugurated one commentator said Trump promised to change after he got into office and he hasn’t changed yet. I think he’d been sworn in for roughly 6 hours. See how ridiculous the media is! FOX news is about the only one that is fair.
Well, this is probably closer to 6 cents worth, so I’ll close or you might still find me ranting at sunrise. It’s getting close to 1 am and I wanted to be done with my emails by then so I can get to bed. Goodnight and God bless.
