How much snow?

How much snow do you have in your area?  Here in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada we have received quite a bit in the past few weeks, pretty sure it is more than we usually have this time of year.  In fact,  I remember that last Christmas Eve the grass was very green and the temperature was a balmy 15 degrees Celcius.

This year the snow has come early with two large dumpings already.  In both storms we received quite a bit more than what was forecasted for our area, wreaking havoc with the driving conditions.  The snow fell faster than the plows could remove it from roads, parking lots, and sidewalks.

On the bright side, and snow does make everything look brighter, shoveling is great exercise.  I actually do not mind it since I retired and am not usually in a hurry to go anywhere. Of course, the drier, fluffy snow (that we have received so far) is much easier to shovel than the wet, heavy stuff…

I much prefer snow to freezing rain, which can be quite dangerous, as I found out recently when I fell and bruised my tailbone.  Almost three weeks later I can still feel it if I move too quickly or sit in a hard chair.

The snow is also very pretty in our landscapes, especially as a backdrop for the colorful Christmas lights…

How much snow do we have?  This is how I measure how much of the white stuff has accumulated:

The BBQ on my back deck shows we have received close to 2 feet of snow already!

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

  1. No snow here in SC. We had a beautiful day. This afternoon I talked with family in Pittsburgh and it was around 17ยบ, expecting to drop the 3 below with a windchill factor of -6ยบ. I enjoyed my lovely day with warm sunshine and a light breeze. Can I rub it in more or is this enough? ๐Ÿ™‚
